abstractPhyllozetes aldretei sp. nov. Cosmochthoniid mite, from oligotrophic soils in the Chihuahuan Desert of México is described. This new species differs from the rest of its congeners by possessing birramea rostral setae, with their biid branches “V” shape and connected by a hyaline membrane. Additionally, the combination of the erectile setae e and f lines with numerous and long marginal barbulations, distance between the d1-d2 setae less than twice that of d1-d1, and the 3-3-3-4 coxiesternal formula are diagnostic characters of the new species.
