abstractA new predatory mite species, Proprioseiulus ceylonensis sp. nov. (Acari: Phytoseiidae) is described and illustrated based on female and male specimens collected from soil-litter in Sri Lanka. The new species can be easily distinguished from all other known species in the genus by the combination of the following characters: absence of ventral setae ZV3, presence of ten macrosetae on legs and saccular calyx of spermatheca. Moreover, an identification key to the world species of the genus is presented.
