| abstract | A new genus and species of chigger mites, Sambonacarus nesomysi gen. et sp. nov., is described from a Madagascan endemic Nesomys rufus Peters, 1870 (Rodentia: Nesomyidae). The mite specimens are deposited in the Natural History Museum (London, UK) and were presumably collected from an alcohol-fixed specimen of island mouse deposited in the same museum. The new genus is similar to the genera Eutrombicula Ewing, 1938 and Microtrombicula Ewing, 1950 within the Eutrombicula generic complex. |
