abstractHirstionyssus tamiopis sp. nov.Body ovoid-elliptic in shape, 0.645-0.660 mm. in length and 0.457-0.495 mm. in breadth. Dorsal plate undivided, with 26 pairs of minute setae. Stetnal plate broader than long, with nearly straight posterior margin. Spurs of coxae 0-3-2-1, and with hook-like spur on the anterior margin of coxae II.Host: Tamiops swinhoei monticolus.This mite is quite similar to Hirstionyssus indosinensis and H. callosduri, but H. indosinensis has 27 pairs of setae on dorsal plate, and H. callosduri has different shape of sternal plate and holoventral plate.Hirstionyssus sand sp. nov.Body more elliptic, 0.562 mm. in length and 0.382 mm. in breadth. Dorsal plate undivided, with 24 pairs of setae. Marginal setae are stronger and longer than the middle ones. Sternal plate broader than long, and with concaved posterior margin. Spurs of coxae 0-2-2-1, and spurs on the anterior margin of coxae II not hooklike.Hosts: Suncus murinus and sometimes Rattus norvegicus.This mite is quite similar to Hirstionyssus carnijex and H. isabellinus, but H. isabellinus has no spur on coxa IV, and both H. carnifex and H. isabellinus have 26 pairs of setae on the dorsal plate.
