abstractSix new species of Leptotrombidium from primary and secondary forests in Malaysia are described and figured. These are Leptotrombidium (Leptotrombidium) brinchangense ex Rattus fulvescens, R. edwardsi and R. alticola; L. (L.) malayanum ex R. alticola; L. (L.) insolitum ex R. alticola and R. edwardsi; L. (L.) rapmundi ex R. edwardsi and ex ground holes; L. (L.) gentryi ex ground holes; and L. (L.) kundini ex ground holes. There is a strong indication to suggest that the ground holes are rat burrows, and chiggers collected from holes are pale white to yellow as opposed to those found on ground surface which are orange to reddish.
