abstractA new species of Shunsennia from Shansi Province is described as follows:
Shunsennia huanglungensis Chang et Wen, sp. nov.
Body orange in color when in living; the unengorged specimens long oval in shape, while the engorged larvae oval.
Gnathosoma. Chelicera blade-like, well developed, with a single row of 13-16 small teeth. Palpal setae B-B-BNN. Palpal claw bifurcate. Galeal seta nude or with one branch at the distal third.
Scutum. Broader than long, ratio of SD to PW about 1:1.6, approximately rectangular. Sensillae flagelliform, nude for entire length. Scutal setae heavily plumose. AM paired, slightly longer than PL, AL the shortest. Standard measurements of scutumas follows: AW 83.1, PW 100.1, SB 35.5, ASB 36.0, PSB 15.0, SD 5l.0, A-P 34.1, AM59.6, AL 54.4, PL 58.8, S 83.6.
Dorsal setae. About 79-82 in number, arranged as follows:
2-12-6-10-4-10-11-10-8-4-2=79
2-12-4-13-6-10-10-10-8-4-2=79
2-12-10-6-4-10-14-10-8-4-2=82
Ventral setae. One pair of sternal setae between coxae III plus 61-76 post-coxal setae.
Legs. Leg segments 6-6-6, coxal setae 2-1-1, Specialized nude setae as follows:
Leg I: 2 genualae, l microgenuala, 2 tibialae, 1 microtibiala, 1 subterminala, 1 parasubterminala, 1 pretarsala, 1 tarsala and 1 microtarsala.
Leg II: 1 genuala, 1 microgenuala, 2 tibialae, 1 pretarsala and 1 tarsala.
Leg III: 1 genuala and 1 tibiala.
Holotype: Larva, collected from the ears of Myospalax psilurus Milne-Edwards, deposited in the Institute of Zoology, Academia Sinica.
Paratypes: 12 larvae, collected from the ears of Myospalax psilurus, Mus musculus bactrianus and Cricetulus triton, deposited in the Department of Parasitology, Sian Medical College.
The present new species is closely similar to Shunsennia hertigi Traub, Morrow et Lipovsky, 1958 (Syn. S. gracilis Ah, 1960), but distinguishable from the latter by having shorter scutal setae, and by its larvae being orange in color while in living.
