| abstract | In this paper, two new species of the genus Hirstionyssus Fonseca, 1948, are described. The characters used to distinguish them from the other allied species are discussed.
Hirstionyssus hupehensis, sp. nov.
Female (Figs. 1-2): Body oval, slightly narrower near the anterior, 670µ in length, 380µ in width. Dorsal plate elongate, anterior margin broadly round, with shouldered appearance, lateral margin roughly straight, posterior 1/3 narrowed to a rounded tip, 555µ in length, 320µ in width; with 26 pairs of setae, of which anterior and posterior marginal ones longer than those on median portion. Unsclerotized portion of dorsum distinctly striated, with 12 pairs of setae.
Sternal plate slightly convex on anterior margin, moderately concave on posterior margin, with 3 pairs of setae and 2 pairs of slit-like pores. Genitoventral plate tongue-like, with 1 pair of setae. Anal plate piriform, 97µ long and 69µ wide, with 3 setae. Distance between genitoventral and anal plates 93µ. Unsclerotized portion of venter striated, with 15 pairs of setae. Stigma at the level between coxae III and IV, peritreme extending anterior to middle of coxae I, peritremalia extending posteriorly and inwardly around the posterior to inner margin of coxae IV.
Coxae with spurs as: 0-2-2-1.
Holotype ♀, collected off the body of Apodemus agrarius in March, 1962, from Hupei Province.
Paratype ♀, collected off the body of Microtus fortis.
