abstractSteatonyssus hsui, sp. nov.
Female: Body elliptical in shape, 780-1116µ wide. Dorsal plate divided. Anterior plate 228-305µ long, 234-273µ wide, with 11 pairs of setae, F1 slender. Posterior plate 325-344µ long, 192-202µ wide, with 3 pairs of minute setae on its posterior margin. Sternal plate 53-56µ long, 120-128µ wide, its posterior margin thickened, strongly concave, its anterior margin indistinct. First pair of sternal setae shorter than the other two, ST1 39-42µ, ST2 64-67µ, ST3 71-85µ long respectively. Genito-ventral plate without antero-medial projection, 216-227µ long, 85-92µ wide, with 1 pair of setae. Anal plate elongate pyriform, 113-120µ long, 78-92µ wide. AD 39-42µ long, PA 32-35µ long. Peritreme reaching the posterior margin of coxa II.
Male: Dorsal plate undivided, 474-564µ long, 216-256µ wide, with 18 pairs of setae and 4 pairs of minute setae on its posterior margin. Holoventral plate 413-443µ long. 3 pairs of sternal setae subequal in length. GV2-4 arranged asymmetrically. Three anal setae subequal, 28-32µ long. Peritreme reaching the middle parts of coxaII. Fixed digits of chelae forked.
Protonymph: Body 535-560µ long, 321-336µ wide. Two plates on dorsum. The anterior plate heart-like in shape, 177-183µ long, 152-163µ wide, with 11 pairs of setae, F1 slender. The posterior plate smaller, placed on the posterior region of dorsum, 53-60µ long, 78-81µ wide, with 3 pairs of setae. The sternal plate buckler inshape, reticulate. 3 pairs of setae subequal, 35-39µ long. Anal plate 49-56µ long,46-49µ wide. Three anal setae subequal, 21-24µ long. Peritreme shorter than coxa III in length. The structure of chelicerae as that of female.
Holotype (♀) and paratypes (8♀♀, 2♂♂): Deposited in the Department of Parasitology, Chung-Shan Medical College.
Host: Pipistrellus pipistrellus (Schreber).
Locality: Kwangtung Province.
Steatonyssus dalianensis, sp. nov.
Female: Body elliptical, 679-817µ long, 446-532µ wide. The anterior plate 251-260µ long, 242-260µ wide, with 11 pairs of setae, of which 5 pairs of submedian setae slender. The posterior plate narrow, anterior and antero-lateral margins concave, posterior end blunt, 242-344µ long, 149-177µ wide, with 3 pairs long and 4 pairs minute setae, of which the 3rd pair of minute setae very slender. Anterior margin of sternal plate not well defined. Posterior margin strongly concave, not thickened, 47-65µ long, 120-149µ wide. ST1 28µ long, ST2-3 47-65µ long. Genito-ventral plate without antero-medial projection, 177-214µ long, 85-93µ wide. Anal plate 102-112µ long, 74µ wide. Ad 28-38µ long, PA 28-33µ long. Peritreme very short, only reaching the anterior parts of coxa III. The naked region of venter with 14-16 pairs of setae. The setae on the posterior margin of the venter spine-like.
