abstractHirstionyssus selliformis, sp. nov.
Female (Figs. 1-3): Idiosoma roughly oval, length 520-270µ, width 370µ; anterior margin broadly rounded; shoulder slightly pronounced; lateral margins narrowed posteriorly to a rounded tip.
Dorsal plate covering almost the entire dorsum; with 26 pairs of setae, of which D1-2, I1-2 very small.
Sternal plate arched, 46µ long (at middle), 148µ wide (at the narrowest point); slightly convex on anterior margin; concavity of posterior margin extending the level of the second pair of sternal setae; 3 pairs of sternal setae subequal; 2 pairs of slit-like pores distinct.
Genitoventral plate broadly rounded posteriorly, somewhat slightly expanded behind genitoventral setae.
Anal plate 96µ long (at midd1e), 71µ wide (at the broadest point); separated from genitoventral plate by a distance about equal to the length of anus; anterior half rounded; postero-lateral margin slightly concave; posterior tip truncated; Ad situated slightly before middle of anus; PA opposite the concavity of postero-lateral margins of the plate, and about equal to the length of Ad; cribrum with 4-5 rows of teeth. Unsclerotized portion of venter finely striated, with about 28 pairs of setae posterior to coxae IV. Stigma situated at a level between coxae III and IV; peritreme extending before middle of coxa I; peritremalia extending posteriorly to the middle of inner margin of coxa IV.
Legs I and II longer and slightly stouter than legs III and IV. Coxae with spurs as: 0-1-2-0; the spurs on ventral side of coxa III small. Tarsus II with a pair of spine-like modified setae subapically.
Holotype (?) and paratype (1?) collected off Myospalax psilurus Milne-Edwards in August, 1959, from Shensi Province. Holotype deposited in the Institute of Zoology, Academia Sinica, Peking; paratype (1?) deposited in the Department of Parasitology, Sian Medical College, Sian.
This species is closely allied to Hirstionyssus neosinicus Teng et Pan, 1962, but its coxae have spurs as: 0-1-2-0, and its dorsal plate and sternal plate are also differently formed.
