| abstract | This paper describes a new species of trombiculid mite from Hupei Province.
Trombicula (Leptotrombidium) hupeica, sp. nov.
Shape broadly oval, length of idiosoma 327µ, width 250µ.
Gnathosoma: Chelicerae apparently simple with only a subterminal toothlet. Galeal setae plumose. Palpi stout, palpal claw trifurcate. Setae on palpal femur and genu nude. Tibia with one plumose seta on dorsal and 2 nude setae on lateral and ventral surfaces. Tarsus dorsally with one plumose seta, ventrally with 3 plumose setae and one sensory rod.
Scutum: Form as figured, with 5 plumose setae. Sensilae hair-like, distal two thirds branched.
Standard measurement (micron) AW 61.5, PW 66.9, SB 26.2, ASB 23.1, PSB 13.1, AP 20.0, AM 39.2, AL 32.4, PL 48.8, Sens 50.6.
Eyes lacking.
Dorsum: With 28 dorsal setae, arranged 2-8-6-6-4-2. All DS slightly bent, plumose. Longest DS measuring 64.4µ (39.1-64.4µ).
Venter: Paired setae on gnathosoma unilaterally plumose, 32.7µ in length. Between coxae II and between coxae III with paired sternal setae (2-2). Behind coxae III with 25 ventral setae, all plumose and slightly bent. Longest VS measuring 64.4µ (20.7-64.4µ).
Legs: Coxae I-III each with one plumose seta. Length of legs including coxae being 222.8, 210.6 and 247.1µ respectively. Tarsus of leg I with a subterminala and a sensory rod, and tibia with 1 tibiala. On leg II the tarsus bears a sensory rod, the tibia with 2 tibialae and genu with 1 genala. Tibia of leg III with 1 tibiala and genu with 1 genala.
Holotype, larva, collected from Apodemus agrarius in September 1963 from Hupei Province.
Paratypes, 4 larvae, collected from the same host of holotype.
