abstractThis paper deals with a new mite, Eutetranychus firmianae sp. nov. (Fig. 1-13), collected from Firmiana simplex on July 15, 1964, from Hsing Yu, Kiangsi Province, and on August 20, 1964, from Lung Hwa, Shanghai, China.
Female: Body broad, somewhat round, dark green in color. Dorsal setae 26, lanceolate in shape, strong and short, almost as long as the distance to the base of the seta behind, set on a strong tubercle. Only one pair of setae on coxa II. A pair of anal setae. Postanal setae arising from the ventral. Tibia of palpus with a strong claw, dorsal sensillum on tarsus of palpus minute. Setae on segments of leg distributed as follows: trochanter I-IV each 1; femur I-IV 6, 4, 2 and 1; patella I-IV 3, 3, 1 and 1; tibia I-IV 6, 4, 3 and 3; tarsus I-IV 10, 9, 6 and 6. Tarsi I and II, each with a single duplex seta. Only one seta situated proximal to the duplex setae of tarsus I, all these setae almost concentrated half way to the proximal end. Ambulacra and empodium completely degenerated.
Male: Body sagittate, the upper part of coxa II broadest. Color not so deep as in female, somewhat pale. Two pairs of post anal setae removed to the dorsal, a pairof anal setae at the terminal end of body. The tuberculater spur on the dorsal surface of the palpus lacking. Setae distributed as follows: trochanter I-IV 1 each; femur I-IV 7, 6, 3 and 1; patella I-IV 3, 3, 2 and 2; tibia I-IV 10, 8, 3 and 3; tarsus I-IV 14, 12, 8 and 8. Shaft of aedeagus wide and thick, hook curved up-ward, gradually narrowed. No distal knob.
This species differs from all the other species of Eutetranychus by the following characteristics: dorsal setae short and coarse, set on strong tubercles, all the setae of tarsus I almost concentrated halfway to the proximal end, and only one seta proximal to the duplex setae. The new species may be distinguishable from all the species of Tetranychoides in that it has only a pair of anal setae.
