abstractA peculiar new species representing a new genus of oribatid mites (Acari: Cryptostigmata), Grypoceramerus acutus, is described from Shimogamo Spa of the Izu Peninsula, Central Japan. The new genus belongs to the family Amerobelbidae and is readily distinguishable from the known genera of the family by the presence of conspicuous, sickle-shaped projections on the humeral regions.
