| abstract | The females and males of Gigantolaelaps tiptoni, n. sp. and Gigantolaelaps intermedia, n. sp. are described and illustrated. The most commonly infested host of G. tiptoni was Oryzomys minutus (Tomes); that of G. intermedia was Neacomys tenuipes Thomas. The 2 new species are part of a complex including the related species G. vitzthumi Fonseca and G. wolffsohni (Oudemans). Characteristics particularly significant in separating members of the complex are found in number of rows of deutosternal teeth and in leg setation. |
