abstractTwo new species and new host and geographic records are established for nasal mites of the sarcoptiform family Epidermoptidae (Turbinoptinae) from birds in Louisiana. Congocoptes dryocopi sp.n. from Dryocopus pileatus and Congocoptes sphyrapicicola sp.n. from Sphyrapicus varius are described. new host records include Turbinoptes strandtmanni from larus atricilla, L. argentatus, and Hydroprogne caspia, Schotedenocoptes americanus from Coccyzus americanus, congocoptes frmani from Centurus carolinus, and congocoptes sp. from Dendrocopos pubescens. new geographic records are established for these species as well as Coliniopte cubanensis from colinus virginianus. The male of Schoutedenocoptes americanus is described for the first time. Also, an additional record and a description of the male of Cytonyssus troglodyti (Cytoditidae) from the nasal passages of Thryothorus ludovicianus are presented. the systematics and host relationships of these species are discussed.
