abstractHeteromorphic deutonymphs (hypopi) of mites of the family Hypoderidae are described from the subcutaneous tissues of the Wood Ibis from Florida. These are identified as Neottialges (Caloenectes) mycteriae, n. sp. and Neottialges (Caloenectes) kutzeri Fain, 1967. The new species differs from others of the subgenus Caloenectes by the pattern of punctations on the idiosoma, anterior sclerotized extensions of epimera III, long whiplike setae d2, and presence of a dorsal opisthosomal furrow. This is the first record of these mites from the host family Ciconiidae in North America. The systematics and biology of these species are discussed.
