| abstract | Females and males of 2 new species of Trichosurolaelaps from phalangers in New Guinea are described: T. strandtmanni, n. sp. on Phalanger gymnotis and T. septoria, n. sp. on Phalanger vestitus. The unusual features of these mites, including the uniquely septate peritreme, cause us to place them in a new species-group, the strandtmanni group, distinct from the previously recognized crassipes group and emanuelae group. A key is given to the 12 described species of Trichosurolaelaps. The type hosts of T. bakeri Mitchell & Strandtmann and T. domrowi Mitchell & Strandtmann are identified. |
