abstractFortuynia elamellata shibai, a new subspecies of oribatidmite, was described from Shikoku, Southwest Japan. It is the first record of an oribatid inhabiting intertidal zone of Japan. The new subspecies is distinguishable from the nominate subspecies, F. elamellata Luxton frm New Zealand, by the relative length of notogastral setae and position of aggenital setae.
