abstractDescribed is Nothoaspis reddelli, new genus and new species from 3 males taken on bat guano, Grutas de Xtacumbilxunam, Campeche, Mexico. N. reddelli appears to be most closely related to species of the genus Antricola, but differs significantly because of a notho aspis (false shield) over the anterior half of the dorsum and by virtue of its having a hypostome in the adult stage. The presence of a shield-like structure is unique among argasid ticks; thus, a new genus is proposed to accommodate this distinctive tick.
