abstractTrouessartiinae Gaud, 1957 is elevated to familial rank and includes 2 subfamilies transferred from the Alloptidae - Trouessartiinae (s.s.) and Thysanocercinae Atyeo & Peterson, 1972. Steatacarus bifiditibia, n. g., n. sp., a trouessartiine, is described from the Oilbird, Steatornis caripensis (Caprimulgiformes, Steatornithidae), collected in Ecuador and Trinidad.
