abstract	Odontacarus (Odontacarus) unicus, n. sp., is described from a Cotton Rat, Sigmodon hispidus hirsutus, taken in Venezuela. It is the first species of the subfamily Leeuwenhoekiinae reported with a pygosomal plate.
