abstractThe genus Guntheria is defined along with its 3 subgenera: Guntheria, Derrickiella and Domrowana. Ophthalmophila is synonymized with Domrowana. The 22 known species of Guntheria occurring in Papua New Guinea are diagnosed and illustrated and Guntheria wauensis, n.sp. is described from the Moss-forest Rat, Rattus niobe. Ornithogastia is raised to generic status and the 1 species reported from Papua New Guinea, Ornithogastia riversi, is diagnosed and illustrated. A key to the species in both genera from Papua New Guinea is given
