| abstract | The present paper deals with two species of gamasoid mites collected off Petaurista elegans ssp. from Guilin, Guangxi Autonomous Region, during the summer of 1975. Haemolaelaps petauristae is described as new to science, and the male and deutonymph of Hirstionyssus trogopteri Teng et Pan are recognized for the first time.
Haemolaelops petauristae, sp. uov.
Female (figs. 1-3) Idiosoma oval, length 812-882 ?, width 539-588 ?. Chelicera with two large teeth on digitus mobilis and three minute denticles on digitus fixus. Pilus dentilis as shown in fig. 3. Dorsal plate covering almost the entire dorsum, 770-812µ long, and 476-532µ wide, with 39 pairs of principle setae and a single accessory seta situated between D7 and D8, most of them not or barely reaching base of setae of next row, the marginal setae somewhat longer than the middle ones, the longest M11 measuring 95.3-103.4µ.
Sternal plate wider than long, lengh 119.5-122.7µ (at middle), and width 145.4-155µ (at the narrowest point); anterior margin convex at middle; posterior margin concave, St1 situated at the anterior margin, shorter than the other two pairs of sternal setae, Genito-ventral plate flask-like, sculptured as figured. Anal plate triangular, with rounded corners, wider than long, Ad on the transverse mid-line of anus, measuring 58.1-61.4µ, PA 80.8-87.2µ long. Unsclerotized area behind coxa IV with 13 pairs of setae, the marginal setae being more heavy. Peritreme long, extending to the anterior margin of coxa I. Metapodal plate narrow and long, somewhat curved. Leg II being stouter than the others, tarsus IV without long proximal seta.
Holotype (?) collected off Petaurista elegan ssp., July 30, 1975, from Guilin, Guangxi Autonomous Region. Paratypes (3?) collected from same host and district, in July 29, 30, 1975; and Nov. 16, 1976. Specimens are deposited in the Department of Parasitology, Guiyang Medical College.
This species is near to Haemolaelaps audyi Baker et al., but in the latter, the pilus dentilis being straight and spear-like, the genito-ventral plate being more strongly expanded posteriorly, Ad situated behind the transverse mid-line of anus, peritreme being shorter, and St1 behind anterior margin of sternal plate.
