| abstract | Mitonyssus, n. gen., is proposed to receive 2 new South American bat parasites (Ornithonyssinae). Described from female, protonymph and egg are the type-species, M. noctilio, n. sp. (off Noctilio labialis, Beni, Bolivia), and M. molossinus, n. sp. (off Molossus molossus, Dist. Fed., Venezuela). Mitonyssus noctilio, n. sp. is also recorded from its type-host and other bats in various localities of Venezuela and Surinam. The male and larva of M. molossinus, n. sp. are described, and additional host and locality records in Venezuela and Surinam are given. |
