abstractIn this paper 12 species of mites belonging to the tribe Phytoptini Newkirk and Keifer (1975) are reported from South India. Among these 11 species are new to science and to hold one new species, a new genus has been erected. The species studied are Phytoptus alangii (Nalepa), P. breyniae sp.nov., P. carissae sp.nov., P. eletariae sp.nov., P. glycosmisae sp.nov., P. lantanae sp.nov., P. laurae sp.nov., P. morindae sp.nov., P. karnatakaensis sp.nov., P. rosae sp.nov., P. subbaraoi sp.nov., and Neophytoptus ocimae gen. et sp.nov. All the new species are adequately illustrated.
